Weekend of Fun and Sun.

Happy Monday! Sorry I fell off the radar over the weekend.  We were busy having fun and enjoying the gorgeous weather.  Here’s a quick recap.  Friday we enjoyed dinner out and quickly realized that going out to dinner with a 15 month old is not enjoyable.  So we quickly made the decision that a date night was in order.  So, after a wonderful Saturday of playing and loving on Sebastian, my hubby and I ventured out on a much-needed date.  I love hanging out with this guy, and I even splurged a little bit and enjoyed some ice cream from Graeter’s.  I mean what’s life if you can’t enjoy everyone once and awhile!?

We rounded out the weekend by enjoying a flag football game that was a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. Our cousin Andrea was playing in a Blonde vs. Brunette flag football game. It was really hot, but a great time for a great cause!

I must admit that I am having a really hard time trying to remember to take pictures of my eats throughout the day so here is a quick run down of the weekend.  My breakfasts looked like this both Saturday and Sunday:

Lunch was pretty simple, leftovers and a quick sandwich.  I didn’t get a picture of lunch either day. Whoops!

Saturday night we went to the Cheesecake Factory and I enjoyed one of their “lighter options” and had steak medallions.  DELICIOUS!

Sunday dinner was awesome and even more so because my hubby cooked it up.  We had taco salad topped with ground turkey, avocado, beans, and a sprinkle of cheese.

So all in all, I couldn’t have asked for more this weekend.  It is always hard to go back to work on Monday mornings.

Day 1, I’ve Got This!

Well, Day 1 is done and I must say, knowing that I need to document what I ate throughout the day really helped me make wiser decisions.  Also, since I was snacking throughout the day on unhealthy options, I discovered that I really need to up my repertoire of healthy snacks. 

The lesson of the day? Hydration!

I usually have at least one diet soda throughout my day.  My job has food services which makes it really easy to grab something and continue with free refills ALL day.  Not good.  So today, I only drank water and it’s amazing how much energy I have. 

So lets get down to the eats for the day.

Breakfast.  I started the day with 3/4 a cup of Special K Fruit and Yogurt Cereal and a banana.  I was definitely running late today and you can tell by how little effort went into breakfast.

Lunch consisted of this salad kit.  Lean Cuisine makes this, and I must admit, it was really delicious.  Does anyone have some good suggestions for healthy lunches on the go? I don’t want to make frozen lunches a habit.

Later in the day I started to get a little hungry, so I ate this delicious apple.

To round the day out for dinner, I ate this chicken and apple sausage, green beans, and strawberries.  The strawberries didn’t make the picture because I ate them way to fast.  I also grabbed a few bites of fruit and rice off of Sebastian’s plate (shh, don’t tell him!).

I haven’t decided how I will continue to write about my meals day in and day out, so bear with me as I try and figure this all out. I feel good to have the first of many days under my belt.  It gets easier right? At least tomorrow is Friday. 

My Journey Begins.

My name is Kathy.  I am your typical 30-something woman living in the Midwest trying to balance a busy life.  I am married to my best friend who I met while in college at Ohio University.  We live in Columbus,Ohio with our wonderful, adorable Havanese puppy named Crosby, and the most amazing, equally adorable toddler, Sebastian.  I have a fun and somewhat stressful job that keeps me busy 50+ hours out of the week.  So as a lot of people do, I fell into the “I’m too busy to eat healthy or work out” trend.

As my title suggests, after a bad day, weekend, week, month ( I think you get the idea) of eating badly, I often say ” I will start my diet tomorrow” or “Tomorrow I will work out”.  And inevitably, tomorrow never comes.  This is my journey to stop the cycle of unhealthy behavior and get my life, mind, and body back on track.  But first, how did I get here?

Where do I start?

For most of my childhood, I struggled with my weight.  I was the middle child of three and had siblings that were naturally skinny.  I have always had to work at being skinny or even average for that matter.  Once I went to college, the situation only got worse, I quickly added the freshman 15, or maybe 20?

After I graduated from college, I moved to the big city, Chicago.  I immersed myself in city life, walking everywhere, and living on my own.  The weight seemed to melt away during this time, and for once in my life I loved the way I looked.  I managed to keep the weight off too!

And then, the most amazing thing happened.  I had my son, Sebastian.  While, he has been the best thing to happen to me, my body has not quite recovered.  It has been a year and a half and I am still carrying around about 20 pounds more than I once did. 

This blog will serve as my accountability partner.  It will be a diary of my food choices, work outs, and life in between.  Thank you for joining me on this journey!
